2/26/2024 0 Comments Macs fan control m1No matter what your rationale is, if you're thinking of upgrading to a new laptop, there's no reason why you shouldn't check out the range of Apple laptops available on eBay. It is really helpful to learn from each other’s successes and failures.Keeping the gadgets up to the minute can be a necessity for some and a thing of interest for others. Again thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences. I will finish installing the rest of my plugins some Eventide, Kush, Waves V13 and UAD Ultimate and report back if I hit any walls. iZotope had me roll back one version until they came out with 9.11.1 which they did quickly. I had an issue with Ozone 9 v9.11.0 which I rarely use, but it stopped my 14MBP M1 Max from opening a session that had it on the project. It loaded and played back very smooth and stable, (pt meter window hitting 100% as previously reported) I then loaded Izotope RX9 advance & Ozone 9 advanced and checked to make sure everything was still working, it was. I then loaded the Netflix session mentioned from page 31 of this thread (45 seconds to load). It took 25 seconds for pro tools to open up. I first installed Pro Tools 2021.12 and the 2022.2 pt plug-ins. I unboxed and did a clean install, just so that I wouldn’t question myself if and when something fails. I received my Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 64gb RAM, 48 core gpu & 4tb ssd yesterday. Moving from a 2013 12core, 2.7 w/64gb and 2tb ssd. Thanks to everyone that has been sharing the good and the well, not working yet feedback on the Mac Studio. I just downloaded it on my intel iMac and will be testing thanks for the heads upįirst post. Very interesting and to clarify, the fan speed did not change at load, even at the lowest 1100 App setting ? so the extra quiet App speed stayed even with all the things you had running ? It's not all that noisy at the stock fan speeds, but it is softly audible while it's still (barely) audible with the fans on their lowest setting, it's quieter, and closer to the (mainly silent) M1 Mac mini in terms of radiated noise. It's even quieter with the fans on their minimum speeds, and the temps are staying very low. I've run everything from modest-sized rock sessions (~50 tracks and a fairly heavy plugin load) some VI experiments with Miroslav Philharmonik 2 and Arturia V Collection 8, Cinebench and Geekbench 5 benchmark tests, web browsing with two dozen open tabs, and a few multi-GB downloads, all the while monitoring the system's thermals with iStatistica Pro - and the hottest anything ever got all day was 44° C. I set the fans to the lowest setting (1,100 RPM) and have left them there all day while I've hammered way on this Mac Studio. I wanted to see how it would do if I slowed the fans down. At that speed, the fan is audible, but very quiet. But the system keeps mine running in the 1,325-1,333 RPM range, regardless of load. Maxed out (3,500 RPM), it's an absolute leaf blower. There's a free version available in the App Store that will let you manually control the fan speed on your Mac Studio. I installed a fan app called Macs Fan Control 1.5.11. I'm fully onboard.Īn update on the Mac Studio noise levels. Thanks for posting! This is more along the lines of what we've been expecting from the Studio. Those smaller sessions only seem to access half of the M1 ultra chip though. It's weird because some of my smaller stereo commercial sessions use 20% and they are much smaller with less plugins. My computer usage meters for that session in pro tools hover around 1-2%(!). I opened up my 5.1 mix and I was able to get all of my plugins running except Nugen ISL and Vislm. ![]() So it was easy to just plug those same 2 cables into the studio. My studio was already setup to just plug in 2 thunderbolt cables to the mbp for everything (thunderbolt hubs and pci box with HDX and AJA card). I haven't had time during the week to setup the new computer, but I worked on it over the weekend. This session would bring my macbook to a crawl and all of the fans would be spinning up. My previous computer is a macbook pro 2019 running ultimate and HDX. I am in the middle of a pretty large track count narrative feature mix in 5.1 with a ton of plugins. I work in post production for film/ tv/ web. ![]() I just recently received my mac studio with M1 ultra and 128gb ram.
